Max Collett

Max Collett’s commercial real estate law practice focuses on brownfield remediation and redevelopment, mixed-use developments, infrastructure projects, commercial leasing and commercial developments on First Nation lands. Max contributes extensively to continuing legal education through numerous presentations and publications. Recent activities include being contributing editor of the CLE BC Commercial Leasing Annotated Precedents and the Environmental Law chapter of CLE BC Advising BC Businesses, and co-author of Environment: Canada in Practical Law Company Cross-Border Environment Handbook. Max is a past member of the firm's Executive Committee, past Vice-Chair of the Business Law Department and the Chair of the Vancouver section of Environmental Law Practice Group.
Max is ranked in Best Lawyers for his work in the areas of real estate, commercial leases, environmental and aboriginal law and is a recommended lawyer in the area of environmental law in Legal 500 Canada.
Max is real estate counsel to many significant public infrastructure projects in Metro Vancouver, including the Vancouver Convention Centre West, and associated seaplane terminal and marina, the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, Surrey, the re-development of Surrey Memorial Hospital, the Academic Ambulatory Care Centre, Vancouver and master re-development of Vancouver General Hospital precinct; the rapid transit Canada Line (Vancouver – Richmond) and currently the re-development of the St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver. Max has been project counsel on numerous commercial developments on First Nation lands, including the 550,000 square foot Tsawwassen Commons retail development, Tsawwassen First Nation, 700,000 square foot Eagle Landing centre and retail village, Squiala First Nation reserve, Chilliwack; and 130,000 square foot Okanagan Lake Landing Shopping Centre, Westbank First Nation. Max has extensive experience in phased development of mixed use communities (including Canada Lands Company’s re-development of Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack into the 153 acre Garrison Crossing development and the 43 acres River’s Edge community), business parks [including Tsawwassen Deltaport Logistics Centre (Tsawwassen First Nation), and Glenlyon Business Park (Canada Lands)], as well as the development of strata commercial/residential and build-to-suit premises. Max is engaged in complex commercial leasing mandates, including outside counsel to the BC Liquor Distribution Branch, London Drugs and Cineplex Odeon.
