Information about the specialist
STEPHANIE MAYOR joined Black Gropper as an associate lawyer in September 2009 following her articling term with the firm. She provides specialized and strategic legal advice on labour and employment, human rights and administrative law matters, and represents clients before courts and administrative tribunals.
In addition to her experience as an advocate for unions and employees with Black Gropper, Stephanie worked as in-house legal counsel for the British Columbia Labour Relations Board and the British Columbia Employment Standards Tribunal. In that role, she advised the Board and the Tribunal on a variety of labour, employment and administrative matters, and appeared before all levels of British Columbia courts on applications, judicial reviews and their appeals.
Prior to joining Black Gropper as an associate, Stephanie conducted legal research and prepared for arbitration hearings and tribunal proceedings as an articling student. She also completed a three month secondment with a firm specializing in public interest, constitutional and appellate litigation where she drafted memorandums of law, pleadings and arguments for a variety of court levels.
Stephanie received her law degree from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies and English from Queen's University. As a law student, she worked as Pro Bono Coordinator for the Victoria chapter of Pro Bono Students Canada and as a research assistant for a law professor. In addition, she volunteered with the University Association of Women and the Law, the University of Victoria Anti-Discrimination Committee, and the Together Against Poverty Society.
Stephanie has held summer positions with the Residential Tenancy Office, West Coast Legal Education Action Fund, and Pivot Legal Society.
Stephanie is currently non-practicing while away on maternity leave.
